Cuenca mayor Marcelo Cabrera was at Parque de la Madre a week ago last Sunday morning. He was there to announce that the city of Cuenca had purchased 30 handicap friendly bicycles to be used by handicapped Cuencanos in Cuenca. All 30 of the bicycles were made by, or adapted, by Ecuadorians.
Cuenca is a very bike friendly city. We have bike lanes throughout the city and on all of Cuenca’s river trails. We have a light rail system being built that’s due to be ready in 2016. Part of the light rail system construction has involved widening some of Cuenca’s streets. As some of the streets are being widened for it bike lanes are also being added on some of them.
About four months ago a bike event was held in Cuenca and more than 8,000 bike riders participated in a ride around the city. Every Sunday from 8AM to 1PM we have free bikes available to use for residents too. I think we’re up to 130 available the last time I checked.
That’s the second time I’ve seen mayor Marcelo Cabrera and the time before this was at an event at Parque de la Madre also. I think it’s great we have a mayor that gets out and about like he does. From everything I can tell he’s been a very popular mayor in Cuenca. He’s a problem solver and is pretty good at finding solutions to problems in our city.
That’s mayor Marcelo Cabrera on the right. When I took that shot I was hoping that gentleman on the left was Jefferson Perez but now I don’t think it is. Nice cap mayor, I want one just like it.
It was a gorgeous sunny morning also.
