I’m calling this post free Ecuador Internet tools but they’ll work anywhere in the world. These are some freebies that I use.
Browser
I use Firefox and have been using it for more than 10 years, it’s open source software from the Mozilla corporation. It’s free and you can download it here.
Free email
This is easy and there are a ton of free email sources. The email client I use for my blog is Thunderbird, also open source software from the Mozilla corporation. It’s free and you can download it here.
VPN
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and what inspired me to do this post. Alot of people pay $5 -$10 a month for this. Why? When you can get it for free? Firefox has a number of free VPN’s available as an add- on. At the moment I’m using Hoxx VPN via Firefox.
When I first came to Ecuador I tried Hola but the way that works is that it’s a download and uses your computer as a router when you aren’t using it and will slow your Internet speed down to a crawl, no good so I quit using it.
Some websites in North America are geo blocked if they detect an Ecuador IP. A VPN can get you a North American IP to get around that.
Open Office
Almost identical to Microsoft Office except that it’s free, also open source software. I’ve been using it for more than 10 years. I wrote my Kindle book using this and have posted several PDF files on this blog using it to do that also that I converted from a Jpeg (photo). It’s free and you can download it here
Anti Virus Software
Do people still pay for that? I’ve been using AVG for more than 10 years and it’s free. You can download it here
Skype
Skype to Skype calls are free anywhere in the world. Calling International toll free numbers are also free. Download it free here
Anyway, those are some of the free Ecuador Internet tools that I use that you might find useful also.
