This is an artists rendering of what a Turi Mirador plaza might look like. The city of Cuenca posted this on the Internet a couple of weeks ago.
Mirador in English means “lookout”. Turi Mirador, or Mirador de Turi is one of Cuenca’s most popular tourist attractions. Open top double decker tourist buses leaving from parque Calderon in the historical district can be seen here all day long. It’s very popular with locals too.
On a clear day you can see the entire city of Cuenca from this vantage point and the Andes mountains beyond. There’s a railing just in front of a road and a church where people gather to enjoy the view.
That’s pretty much it though, just a railing. I think the city of Cuenca is throwing this out there to see what people think. I can see a number of issues implementing this as is, but it’s nice to see the city thinking about it.
Since this was posted a couple of weeks ago I’ve come up with a few variations of this myself which is probably exactly what the city of Cuenca is looking for.
One of the nice things about Cuenca is the contrast between the old and the new and I think it would be nice to see a little “new” at Turi Mirador, maybe a Turi Mirador Plaza.
